The State of Affairs

Two out of three Americans consider a general lack of civility to be a major problem for our country and more than seventy percent think that poor behavior has gotten worse in recent years according to a recently published study by Powell Tate/Weber Shandwick in partnership with KRC Research. What a shame.

I think rudeness is contagious – rudeness in reprisal if you will. As F. Scott Fitzgerald once said, “It’s not a slam at you when people are rude – it’s a slam at the people they’ve met before.”

What can you do to increase civility and politeness in society?  Luckily, I think politeness is just as contagious – so do your part and pass it forward. Brighten someone’s day – including yours – by showcasing your social graces. To do so is to be marvelously well-mannered.

Life Decisions?

We all want to lead lives that are joyous, days filled with magical outcomes; if we want these marvelous days we have to learn how to make decisions about how we will live our lives.

We have to become skilled at how to make conscious decisions that will make our lives more positive, more rewarding and filled with more joy than heart ache. We learn how to empower ourselves so we create wonderful days.

We recognize the joy that music brings us, the smiles that stories give us, the feelings of success when we complete a project that we have put our entire effort into, regardless of what the project is, we have done our best and it shows. The marvelous feeling of success that we give ourselves by being the best we can be.

We look at our everyday situations, we identify the issues of the day and we decide what will contribute to a marvelous day. We can envision what the day should look like.

We take pride in how we look, how we speak, how we interact with society, both friends and strangers, we present ourselves to the whole world as being a person of integrity.

We are kind, generous and a person that gives joy to others simple because we choose to be so. We choose to make our day wonderful not only for ourselves but for those around us. A conscious decision, yes, to have a marvelous day. We have made a good decision.

Being well rounded is important to a happy life. We have to recognize many aspects of happiness that contribute to a marvelous life, this makes life decisions easier.
Work gives us the means to have a home; family enables us to have a strong unit that brings us happiness just because, and quality time with those we love, how marvelous is this?

Do we always make the right decision? No we do not. We can correct our mistakes, the problem arises when we do not correct the mistake and we allow the bad decision to fester.

We do not know the outcome of our decisions until they have been made and the chain of events are put into play. It is then that we understand that a “good decision” was made and we are pleased or that a “bad decision” was made and we must correct the mistake. We learn how to tailor our lives by heeding the lessons we learn from life.

We can accomplish the mission of having a marvelous life but it is a conscious decision that we make every morning as we start our days, day in, day out, year in, year out, but so worth the effort.
